We seek to personalise our charity work as it helps pupils to better understand the links between the personal and the wider community whether local or global. We have recently supported Small Steps, a charity working with the nephew of one of our teachers and Retts UK who took care of the sibling of one of our senior pupils.

Charity choices are, in the first instance presented to the School Council who select one worthy cause per term and in recent years we have supported Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, The Rainbow Centre, Naomi House, Jack’s Place, Cancer Research, The Haven, and Off the Record. The School Council, along with the senior prefects, begin planning events which are then rolled out to the upper school and are often supported by the PE department and Sports Leaders.

Over the last few years we have raised tremendous amounts of money through sponsored walks, fancy dress, bake sales, non-uniform days and various activities at the summer and Christmas fayres. In addition, we support the Basics Bank in Gosport through the harvest festival and Christmas hamper collection and the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas shoebox appeal. We fundraise for national campaigns too such as the Macmillan Tea Party, Sports Relief and Jeans for Genes.

The Meoncross community frequently demonstrates its generosity to causes that have positively impacted on our lives in some way. This year, we will be focusing on developing our awareness of global charities and looking for ways in which we can support these causes.
