Meoncross School is looking to appoint a dynamic and inspirational teacher with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to join the Mathematics Department in this high performing school. You will teach throughout the senior school up to and including GCSE Mathematics. There will also be the option to teach GCSE Statistics, FSMQ Additional Mathematics, A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Working within a close knit team, you will be sharing designated Mathematics teaching rooms, each equipped with a networked PC, linked to a projector.
The main aims of the Mathematics Department are to promote confidence and enjoyment and to enable each pupil to develop an understanding of Mathematics to their full potential. A wide range of Mathematical experiences are provided and tailored to suit individual learning needs. Consequently it is important that the person appointed should not only have a sound knowledge of Mathematics, but that you should be able to foster an enjoyment and an understanding of the subject amongst the pupils. The Department also aims to promote the perception of the importance of Mathematics both as a subject in its own right and for its relevance to the real world and to other subjects.
The pupils are taught in sets, grouped by their mathematical ability. These settings remain flexible and pupils are assessed formally twice a term. The current Years 10 and 11 are following the OCR GCSE specification. Pupils in set 1 of Year 11 are offered the opportunity to develop their skills further by sitting OCR’s FSMQ Additional Mathematics.
The GCSE results for the department are excellent, with nearly 50% of our pupils gaining an A* or A grade. We also offer pupils in Years 10 and 11 GSCE Statistics as an additional option and again the results are outstanding with 100% A*/A grade passes. Years 12 and 13 have the option of studying both A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Pupils throughout the school take part in UKMT Mathematics Challenges, occasionally gaining access to subsequent rounds.
INSET and internal support are provided for staff to enable them to extend their expertise into new areas. An interest in using and developing ICT to teach mathematics would be a benefit. Staff benefit from school fee discounts, and lunch is also provided.
