Pupils from Meoncross School once again achieved excellent examination results this year in both A Levels and GCSEs.
Our first cohort of A Level students achieved an impressive 82% A*/B equivalent from A Levels or their equivalent qualifications, with 50% being achieved at A*/A. This puts our students in a superb position with regards to the next stage of their future academic careers. We are especially pleased because both students came through to the Sixth Form from Meoncross Upper School.
The GCSE results this year showed an impressive total of 10 new top grade 9s across Mathematics, English Language and English Literature – 9% of all Meoncross grades in these subjects, compared to 2.9% nationally.
Pupils performed strongly in both Mathematics and English, with 45% of students gaining 7, 8 or 9 grades (a strong A or above) in Mathematics, compared to 19.2% nationally. 11% achieved grade 9 (the equivalent of an A**) in Mathematics and 13% in English Literature, against national averages of 3.5% and 3.2% respectively.
Across the wider spectrum, 82% of students achieved a “standard pass” at the new grade 4+ and, 68% achieved a “strong pass” at grade 5+ in English Language and Mathematics. Outside of the core subjects an equally impressive 33% of grades in all other subjects gained A*- A.
Meoncross pupils performed exceptionally well across a range of other subjects, most notably Art and Textiles – 68% scored A* or A in Art and 100% A or A*s in Textiles. All three separate Sciences achieved 54% A*/A. Humanities subjects were also celebrating with 50% of pupils sitting Religious Studies achieving A or A* and 48% in Geography.
The consistent academic success of a non-selective school like ours is rooted in the teaching staff knowing each pupil well. Year on year our pupils achieve GCSE grades well above the national average and these results compare favourably with the results of academically selective independent schools in the area.
